Other Services Available

In addition to being bariatric surgeons, all four physicians are Trauma and Board Certified general surgeons. They have the expertise to provide surgical and medical care to patients beyond weight loss surgery.

In the course of a lifetime, many weight loss surgery patients are confronted with health concerns or ailments that require surgery. The following is a limited list of surgical procedures our practice provides:

Abdominal Wall/Inguinal Hernia

A hernia is the protrusion of an organ through the wall that normally contains it. People who are obese or have lost a great deal of weight or had abdominal surgery are at higher risk for hernias. Many hernia repairs are performed using the laparoscopic approach and done on an outpatient basis.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer continues to be the most common type of cancer occurring in women in the United States. Early detection and diagnosis is beneficial for determining the treatment for the disease. We are experienced in the most advanced, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Colon and Rectal Surgery

Surgery performed on the colon and rectum is most commonly for colorectal cancer, polyps, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Often times, surgery to treat these diseases can be performed utilizing minimally invasive techniques. Patients whose surgeries are completed by this approach usually can enjoy a quicker recovery, less pain, and a faster return to their normal life.

Hemorrhoids are common ailment of the rectum. There are newer methods to treat hemorrhoids, which cause less pain and decrease recovery time.

Colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that is used to identify diseases of the colon. It is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients go home 1-2 hours after undergoing this procedure.

Excess Skin Removal - post weight loss surgery

Following significant weight loss, a person can be left with a tremendous amount of excess, hanging skin throughout many areas of the body. Above being physically undesirable, this excess skin can cause considerable hygiene problems, skin irritation, skin breakdown and pain, infection and lead to problems in finding clothes that can fit properly. Often times with proper documentation, these procedures are covered by insurance.

We understand that excess skin can be a significant problem after bariatric surgery. To achieve maximum benefit, we recommended that skin reduction surgery not be performed until your weight has stabilized. Please feel free to discuss any questions you may have concerning this procedure with your surgeon.

Gastrointestinal Surgery

Surgeries of the GI tract are performed to diagnose and treat diseases of the digestive system. The organs involved include esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, biliary tree, large & small intestines spleen and liver. Our practice utilizes the latest, minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques whenever possible.

Skin Disorders

Skin cancer is the most prevalent of cancers. Regular routine inspection of your entire body for skin changes such as lumps, growths, moles or sores that appear suddenly or begin to change need to be examined and possibly removed. Many of these excisions can be done in our office.

Varicose and Spider Veins

Varicose veins are enlarged veins that can be flesh colored, dark purple or blue. They often look like cords and appear twisted and bulging. They are swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are commonly found on the backs of the calves or on the inside of the leg.

Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller. They are often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They look like tree branches or spider webs with short jagged lines.

Our practice offers several options for the treatment of varicosities including Sclerotherapy and Laser treatment.
